Faculty Friday: Spotlight Series - Mrs. Diaz-Delgado

Although Mrs. Diaz-Delgado began her teaching career nearly 20 years ago, it was before then that she fell in love with showing children how to make connections with learning and exploring. At only 15 years old, she was an assistant teacher for her church’s religious education program, and that sparked a passion that would eventually turn into her career. Her first teaching job was at the Children’s Creative Learning Center at FIU, where she developed her teaching philosophy. From there, she moved to public education, where she gained experience teaching Kindergarten - Fifth grade and even Spanish. She joined St. Thomas three years ago, and what she most loves about the school is being able to incorporate spirituality in education. “I believe in developing the ‘whole child’ and valuing each student individually. Learning should be a discovery process, engaging and interactive,” said Mrs. Diaz-Delgado. When asked to describe first grade, she defined it as fun, loving, and sometimes messy! If there is one key takeaway, she wants them to learn this year is the “Power of Yet,” anything is possible if they persevere!

Mrs. Diaz-Delgado is the daughter of two Cuban immigrants and has lived in Miami her entire life. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from FIU and a Masters in Reading Education from Nova Southeastern University. She is the proud mother of two teenage daughters who currently attend Ransom Everglades and three furbabies that she adores. She has been married for eight years to a fellow teacher who works at a special needs school. Her favorite pastime involves anything outdoors: camping, bike riding, kayaking, or simply reading on the beach. Being in nature “fills her cup!”
