Overview

The academic program at St. Thomas Episcopal Parish School challenges children to reach beyond their potential. Our curriculum is designed with national standards as the framework for benchmarks and expectations for each grade level. The ability to integrate the curriculum through collaborative planning among classroom teachers and specialists opens a world of connections for our young scholars.
 
St. Thomas believes in the importance of nurturing the whole child. The school creates a dynamic and supportive environment where students can stretch themselves and take risks as they explore the world around them. Rigorous academics supporting the acquisition of 21st century skills are balanced with an emphasis on the arts and a healthy mind, body, and spirit.
 
Our curriculum is the result of ongoing conversations among faculty and administration. It is based on current educational best practices and philosophical thought. Our Curriculum Coordinator works with faculty to update, refine, implement, and evaluate as needed. The curriculum is a document that will continue to grow and evolve over time through thoughtful reflection and data analysis. Curriculum is integrated among the various subjects and is based on scope and sequence.

Lauren Kohlhoff holds a BS in Early Childhood Education from Kennesaw State University and has twelve years combined teaching experience in both public and independent schools. Before joining the STEPS team in 2016, Mrs. Kohlhoff taught 3rd grade at Victory ES in Northern Virginia, 5th and 6th grade at the American School of Barcelona, and 6th and 7th grade at the American School of Madrid.

Mrs. Kohlhoff has extensive experience in designing, refining and implementing curriculum and has led the development and school wide implementation of research-based programs including the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program.
