What it means to be an HRC

Homeroom Coordinators (HRCs) are the liaisons between classroom parents and the teacher. They assist the homeroom teacher in planning and organizing refreshments and special class events. Two homeroom coordinators are selected for each class. If more than two parents volunteer for a class, the selection of homeroom coordinators is done by lottery.

The HRCs work under the head homeroom coordinators who are part of the STEPS PA Executive Team. One homeroom coordinator is selected from each grade to be the “point coordinator” for that grade. Having one “point coordinator” per grade ensures that parents in each grade receive a consistent message and direction. Rather than having all 6 homeroom coordinators in each grade sending out e-mail communications to the parents, the point coordinator works with the head HRCs to initiate the communications with the rest of the parents for that grade.

Being an HRC for a class is an enjoyable as well as incredibly important task. Careful consideration should be given before taken on this responsibility. We thank all of our HRCs for their support!
