St. Thomas Alum Remi Bacardi ’18 Returns to Inspire Future Student-Athletes

St. Thomas recently welcomed back alumna Remi Bacardi ’18 as she spoke to our students about her journey as a student-athlete and the lessons she has learned through golf. Bacardi, who has excelled in the sport as a Falcon at Palmer Trinity School, has received numerous accolades in the sport including being named the Miami Herald Golfer of the Year. She is set to continue her golf career at the University of Virginia next year as a Division I athlete.

During her visit back to St. Thomas, Bacardi shared how golf has shaped her character, instilling core values like responsibility, honesty, commitment, humility, and gratitude. She spoke about the dedication and perseverance required to pursue one’s passion, reminding students that success comes from consistent effort and resilience. Bacardi encouraged students to work hard in developing their own interests, as these passions can evolve into future opportunities.

Another important lesson she highlighted was learning to stay present and manage disappointment. Whether facing a challenging round or an unexpected setback, Bacardi has developed a “look forward” mentality, understanding that each game is a chance to improve, and every setback is a stepping stone to growth.

For our students, seeing a St. Thomas alum achieve such success was both inspiring and aspirational. Bacardi’s story served as a powerful reminder that with dedication and perseverance, they too can accomplish great things. Her journey illustrated that the values learned at St. Thomas can extend far beyond the classroom, shaping their futures in ways they might not yet realize. Hearing from someone who once walked the same halls and faced similar challenges made her words even more impactful, leaving students encouraged to pursue their own dreams with confidence and commitment.
