Letter from Alejandro Dueñas, Chair of the Board of Trustees
To the St. Thomas Community:
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank all of you for your continued support of this incredible institution. St. Thomas is truly a unique place for students – a treasured haven for children where academic excellence, a lifelong love of learning, and the Episcopal principles and values enable our children to be compassionate, thoughtful, and productive citizens in an ever-changing world.
Our Board of Trustees is focused on ensuring our school’s mission of providing a secure and loving community that nurtures, but challenges our students. We continuously evaluate and adapt our curriculum through the professional development of our faculty, so that we stay at the forefront of best practices in teaching 21st century skills and competencies.
The 2017-18 school year was a tremendous success, as Mrs. Lillian Issa completed her second year as the new Head of School for St. Thomas. Mrs. Issa leads with the sense of excitement and energy that characterizes her, continuing to tackle her goals for a continued focus on innovation, enhanced student character development and academic excellence. For our St. Thomas Community this was also a year of great reflection, research and focus that will give way to a new and ambitious five-year strategic plan for our parish school that will be revealed a the start of the 2018-19 school year.
Thank you to the continued support of the St. Thomas parents, alumni, administration and faculty, and through the countless volunteer hours and generous gifts to the Annual Fund, Capital Campaign and Endowment Fund, St. Thomas will continue to expand on opportunities for multi-faceted learning for our children. The Board, together with the Vestry of the church, will continue to adhere to a policy of fiscal prudence in order to capitalize on your efforts to secure our future with a healthy endowment.
Notwithstanding the success St. Thomas has experienced, we cannot rest on our laurels. In the face of a dynamic and changing global community, the Board of Trustees and the school’s leadership remains committed to the exploration of innovative classroom learning and to the attraction and retention of an outstanding faculty.
The Episcopal Church’s inclusive religious philosophy, principles and values continue to provide important faith and character education to our students -- part of the foundation of the education offered here at St. Thomas.
All of us on the Board of Trustees are confident that the future will continue to shine very bright for the St. Thomas Community.
Alejandro A. Dueñas
